Pathless ps511/11/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() The Pathless' puzzles never get too complicated, but many of them are still fun and rewarding to complete. These buildings contain puzzles that players can complete in exchange for helpful items, like XP to boost the number of times they can flap the eagle's wins or collectibles they need to cleanse the towers and face the area's boss. While its movement system is unique, The Pathless is otherwise clearly inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, with players exploring a large, mostly-destroyed open world, dotted with dilapidated buildings that are similar to BOTW's Shrines. Some open-world games struggle with keeping the inevitable travel between point A and point B interesting, but The Pathless' unique movement system makes these usually-dull sections of gameplay pretty fun. If players are able to send their arrows flying at the right times, they can chain together a ton of shots that will let them build up maximum speed and practically (or in some cases, literally) fly to their destination. The Pathless uses a stamina meter that players can constantly refill by shooting talismans dotted around the map. The Pathless' bow is key to the gameplay, as players not only use it to shoot switches and the game's few enemies, but it also plays a big role in movement. The Hunter is armed with nothing but her bow and before too long, an eagle companion that helps her better explore the game world. The Pathless sees players take on the role of the Hunter, a mysterious warrior who is trying to restore order to a land ravaged by a demonic curse. Giant Squid's most recent game, The Pathless, is similar to Abzu in that it, too, has eye-catching visuals, but this new game is much more ambitious, especially from a gameplay standpoint. Abzu became somewhat of an indie darling at the time of its release, with particular praise given to its art style. While the PS5 version may not be leaps and bounds ahead of the PS4 version, what has been added does give it a different feeling and an overall, a slightly more pleasurable experience. In 2016, indie studio Giant Squid released Abzu, a gorgeous game about a diver exploring the ocean. With the PlayStation 5 version, it loads quicker, runs better, looks more refined and has the added immersion of the Dualsense features. So, The Pathless was already a great game, in fact, we gave it a 9 our PlayStation 4 review. ![]() Audio work is a strange beast but I have noticed quite a step up playing PlayStation 5 games and The Pathless is no different. Rather than the audio coming out of the headphones I was using, it sounded a lot more like I was in the middle of the world, atmosphere, and environment. Whilst definitely looking better, the differences are minor, and both versions of the Pathless look nice.įrom an audio standpoint, again, The Pathless had good audio before but I did notice a richer, more refined audio experience on the PlayStation 5. It just shows how much of a good job was done on the PS4 version, visually they look very similar but overall, the PS5 version is a tad prettier on the eye and feels smoother and it runs like butter on Sony’s next-gen monster. You would have to see them side by side to see it but it is there, it’s very subtle. It looks sharper, more refined and the colours just pop off the screen. Graphically, while The Pathless was already a beautiful game It looks stunning on the PlayStation 5. It’s a few small things in theory, but they add so much to the overall experience. The right side of your controller will have a subtle vibration when you jump, the left side will slightly vibrate when you let loose an arrow and you can feel every bow draw on the adaptive triggers. The Pathless was a great experience anyway but now it is heightened by the amazing new qualities of PlayStation’s new controller. The haptic feedback and adaptive triggers are game-changing features. The Dualsense is where you will get the biggest improvement for The Pathless. Time is money though so any wiggle-room will be happily accepted. All in all, the SSD does shave a nice chunk of time off the PS5 version but the Pathless was already quite good in this department anyway, so it is by no means a game-changing feature. It’s not too shabby either way but a nice boost to load times is never frowned upon. No room for checking your Twitter or making a brew now!įrom the menu to gameplay takes 7 seconds on the Pro and 4 seconds on the PS5. ![]() From clicking the game tile to hitting the menu screen takes 30.58 seconds on the Pro and 18.5 seconds on the PS5, not far off half the time. The solid-state drive is a much-touted part of the PlayStation 5, but how much does it affect The Pathless? Well, quite a bit actually, I even dragged out the old PS4 Pro to do a few comparisons for you lucky people. The Pathless has a lovely, ethereal quality to it. ![]()
